Day 12 - Chinatown, Piccadilly Circus, Candy Cakes

Now that my podcast is finished, Jeannie and I headed out to explore neighborhoods close to us. I can't believe we've been here almost two weeks and we are only just now getting to these surrounding places!

Chinatown was certainly a new and surprising adventure. The streets were full of people and the windows were full of ducks...and one lonely crispy fried eel. Ewwww! Lunch was scrumptious, however. Service was slow, but it gave us time to sit and relax (something we haven't done enough).

Piccadilly Circus is a famous space in London's West End. It is simply an area where several major roads meet at a roundabout. It is a major shopping and entertainment area with loads of people all about. There are large neon signs and jumbotrons that make you think you're in Times Square. The traffic is so heavy I felt like I needed to turn 360 degrees before crossing the street! We saw various memorials for Michael Jackson, with a particularly large one at a theatre hosting "Thriller", an MJ impersonator show.

In our ventures we ran across the most adorable shop, which we had already heard about from other classmates. We stopped for dessert at Candy Cakes, a whimsical little cupcake shop that is very colorful. Everyone that passed by had to stop. They have marketed this shop very well. The cupcakes are delicious, but overpriced. No matter...you still have to get one!

  1. The cuppycakes look too cute to eat! I hope they were as good as they look. So glad that you are enjoying your surroundings but slowing down a little to take it all in...:-), Jodi
